Jon and Cathy have been married for 16 years. Between them they have 3 adult married children and 3 grandchildren. Jon has been in the security industry for 35 years. He now owns Alchemy New Media which contracts for online classes, podcasts and website development. His interest in natural food began when we started feeding our shelties raw meaty bones and organ meats to mimic the carnivorous diet of wolves. After a diagnosis of heart disease in April, 2008 his interest in holistic medicines and nutrient-dense foods increased. He went on an elimination diet to discover his food sensitivities.
After eliminating gluten, corn, and bovine dairy and decreasing carbohydrates he overcame chronic health problems including sinus congestion, headaches, joint pain, food cravings, and excess weight. Jon is a self-proclaimed “geek” who loves all kinds of gadgets and techie stuff. He has a mechanical bent and loves woodworking.
Cathy finished 33 years of elementary education in May, 2010 and retires in June. She has a doctorate in reading education from the University of Georgia. She has a lifelong interest in animals, nutrition, and health and at one time ate a vegetarian diet (during which she suffered from joint pain, muscle weakness and depression). She enjoys dog training using positive reinforcement and grew up with a menagerie of dogs, cats, squirrels, raccoons, iguanas, hamsters, rats, mice, and snakes. Her more recent interests include sustainable food, Julia Child, Weston A. Price, local food, farmers using grass-fed models, and social media.
Since starting this podcast in July, 2008, Jon and Cathy have become much more informed about food, sustainability, nutrient dense food, and holistic health. Each interview leaves them more enlightened on one or more of these topics on natural living. It has been an amazing journey. In October, 2009, they decided to move from consumers of sustainable food to producers of it. As they become “agripreneurs” and join the 2% of the U.S. population feeding 98% of the country, they will share what they learn with their listeners and readers through their blog, podcasts, and video.
